Notes about Machjaltja RIETVELD

Letter from Teunis B v.d. Hoek to his bothers and sisters:
"Hearty greetings from all of us with the exception of Arie's wife. They had a very swift and uneventful trip over land and sea. On Monday, June 5, at 3:30 I and many others were waiting from them at the train station in Armour. There we met with joy and thankfulness to God. Arie and the children were in good health but Maggeltje felt sick. She caught a cold in the ocean. She had also complained of pain in her side before leaving Holland. On the train she was still more sickly. When we met each other everyone was very happy, but Maggeltje could only have a sip of tea with a slice of cake and then she went directly to bed.... She died on Thursday at about 1:00 pm.

Brother, you can imagine that it was a tragic experience for her husband and children. Her mind was clear until the last three hours and she had a little pain at the end.
