Harm was a sea captain and owned one of the ships in a fleet of ships. He had lost 2 ships at different times and then had bought the ship Nephtunus. He took his eldest son, Jan Jacob with him on the ship the third time he went out. They were never heard from again. Harm had shipped to other ports and was making a good living that way. When he was not heard from again, Jantzie and her six children suddenly lost their provider and means to provide. She became a very poor woman.
