    Kort na de koop van het huis aan de Noord Voorstraat te 's-Gravendeel wordt aan hem toestemming ("admissie") verleend om koffie, thee en gedistilleerd te gaan verkopen. Leendert is herbergier geworden.
    Na zijn overlijden krijgt de weduwe Anna Geervliet in 1774 admissie om de zaak voort te zetten. In 1797, als ook Anna is overleden besluiten de talrijke erfgenamen het huis te verkopen. Op 17.6.1797 wordt Jacob van Strijen de nieuwe eigenaar van hetperceel (R.A. 's-Gravendeel, nr. 10, 1797).

    In deze aflevering van de rubriek "Mensen van vroeger" komt de familie Moret aan bod. De 's-Gravendeelse historie van dit geslacht begint in 1737, wanneer het pasgetrouwde stel Leendert Leendertsz. Moret en Neeltje Jans Kok zich in 's-Gravendeel vestigt. Hij komt uit Dubbeldam en zij van Oost-IJsselmonde. Met hen begint een omvangrijk 's-Gravendeels nageslacht, waarvan echter anno 1996 niet zoveel meer is terug te vinden in ons dorp. In de vorige eeuw waren er grote gezinnen met de naam Moret in 's-Gravendeel te vinden. Zo komen we ene Andries Moret tegen, gehuwd met Lijntje van Gent, uit welk huwelijk 7 kinderen werden geboren. Als weduwnaar trouwde Andries met Lena van de Erve, waarna nog eens 15 (!) kinderen werden geboren. Uiteindelijk zijn er slechts zes kinderen van Andries "groot geworden", de andere kinderen stierven zeer jong.

    Over de herkomst van de naam Moret bestaan verschillende theorieën. In publicaties van de familiestichting Moret worden drie mogelijkheden genoemd: Ten eerste de vernoeming van een plaats in Frankrijk of Italië, vervolgens als verbastering van de bijnaam "Moortje" en als derde mogelijkheid zou Moret ook "kleine moerbeiboom" betekend hebben.

    Diverse genealogische werkstukken noemen als eerst bekende stamvader: Jaques Moret, gezel te Antwerpen, die in 1626 te Rotterdam huwt met Lijsbeth Leenderts, een weduwe. Via diens zoon Leendert (gehuwd met Chieltje Michiels) en kleinzoon Leendert Leenderts (gehuwd met Marigie Andries) komen we bij Leendert Leenderts Moret, die in 1714 te Ridderkerk trouwde met Ingetje Cornelis de Zeeuw. Een van hun kinderen is Leendert Leendertsz. Moret, waarmee de hieronder gepubliceerde stamreeks begint.
