Barney is overleden op 15-01-1952 in Muskegon Heights (MI, USA), 72 jaar oud, fabrieksarbeider en groentekweker. Barney trouwde, 28 jaar oud, op 27-06-1907 in Muskegon (MI, USA) met Anna Meyer, 21 jaar oud. Anna is geboren op 30-04-1886 in Fruitport (MI, USA), dochter van Jan (John) Meijer/Meyer en Trijntje Oostenrijk. Anna is overleden op 07-04-1947 in Fruitport, 60 jaar oud.


Barteld emigreerde in 1903, samen met neef Jacob Kort (1.1.6.1.4.3), naar Amerika. Barteld, die in Amerika de naam ´Barney´ kreeg, verbleef in eerste instantie bij zijn oom Jan Toppen, die in Muskegon woonde.


Barteld en Anna woonden tot 1915 in Muskegon Heights, waarna ze verhuisden naar Fruitport. Alle drie de dochters van Barteld en Anna woonden op loopafstand van Barteld en Anna. Ze kregen dan ook regelmatig hun kinderen en kleinkinderen over de vloer. Anna overlijdt bij haar dochter Florence in huis. In 1948 verhuist Barteld weer naar Muskegon Heights.
