Notes about Ippe Konings

Ippe Konings groeide op in Haarlem met vijf broers en vier zussen. Na de Lagere School volgde hij verschillende opleidingen tot bloemist. Hij was tussen 1919 en 1925 werkzaam bij de Dienst van de Hout en de Plantsoenen in Haarlem. Met dit werk bekostigde hij waarschijnlijk zijn opleidingen. Hij werd vrijgesteld van militaire dienst wegens broederdienst. Tussen 1925 en 1942 werkte hij bij dierentuin Artis in Amsterdam als bloemist. Na zijn huwelijk in 1929 vestigde hij zich definitief in Amsterdam (Indische Buurt, Dapperbuurt). Eind jaren ’30 kwam Ippe met het plan om een tuinbouwschool op te richten in Amsterdam. Hij wilde zo de jeugd een goede vakopleiding aanbieden. Na het uitbreken van de oorlog is dit plan er echter nooit meer van gekomen. Begin jaren ’40 raakte hij in conflict met zijn werkgever bij Artis en nam hij ontslag. Niet kort daarna meldde hij zich uit noodzaak vrijwillig bij de Arbeitseinzats van de Duitse bezetter en kwam hij, met zijn vrouw en zoon, te wonen op het landgoed Auberhof van scheepsbouwer John T. Essberger (1886-1959) in het plaatsje Trittau, net buiten Hamburg. Aldaar verzorgde hij de tuin en de kassen. In 1947 keerde hij en zijn gezin terug naar Haarlem en vestigden zij zich aan de Vondelweg. Niet kort daarna vond hij met hulp van zijn zuster Aag (1920-2014) werk bij de textielfabriek Kerko in Haarlem als expeditiechef. Zij oorspronkelijke beroep als bloemist heeft hij nooit meer uitgevoerd. Na het overlijden van zijn eerste vrouw hertrouwde hij met Jannie Regterschot (1914-1987), gescheiden vrouw van Jacobus Albertus Hessels (1909-1971) en moeder van twee zonen. Ippe overleed aan de gevolgen van een hersenbloeding.
