Notes about Maria Amalia van Brandenburg-Schwedt

Maria Amalia van Brandenburg (Cölln, 26 november 1670 †- Schleusingen, 17 november 1739) was een dochter van prinses en markgravin van Brandenburg uit het huis Hohenzollern.

Zij was de dochter van de "Grote keurvorst" Frederik Willem van Brandenburg uit zijn tweede huwelijk met Dorothea Sophie van Sleeswijk-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg, dochter van hertog Filips van Sleeswijk-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg.

Als hertogin bezocht ze in 1709 de Wilhelmsbrunnen, waarvan ze de ontwikkeling als badplaats aanzienlijk bevorderde.

Ze stierf op 69-jarige leeftijd in de voormalige zetel van Schleusingen in Henneberg, die ze na de dood van haar man als weduwe had ontvangen, en werd begraven in de prinselijke crypte van de St. Martin's Church in Kassel vanwege de connectie van haar dochter met het Hessische vorstenhuis.

Haar eerste huwelijk was op 20 augustus 1687 in Potsdam met erfprins Karel van Mecklenburg, zoon van hertog Gustaaf Adolf van Mecklenburg en Magdalena Sibylla van Sleeswijk-Holstein-Gottorf. Op 15 maart 1688 stierf haar man Karl en hun enige kind stierf bij de geboorte.

Op 25 juni 1689 trouwde ze met hertog Moritz Wilhelm van Saksen-Zeitz, zoon van hertog Moritz van Saksen-Zeitz en Dorothea Maria van Saksen-Weimar, die ze 21 jaar overleefde. Uit dit huwelijk werdenvijf kinderen geboren.
