In 1863 (zie de acten) was Johanna Cornelia Kamermans gedetineerde in het Huis van Arrest, de Strafgevangenis en de Strafinrichtingen te Middelburg. Zie het vervolg:

De arrondissementsregtbank alhier heeft heden uitspraak gedaan in de zaan van J.C. Kamermans, dienstmeid, laatst in dienst bij mr. J.H. de Stoppelaar, alhier, thans gedetineerd. ... De regtbank heeft de beklaagde schuldig verklaard aan een viertal feiten, waarvan het eerste moet worden gekwalificeerd: diefstal van een loonbediende ten nadeele van zijn meester; het tweede en het derde: misbruik van vertrouwen; en het vierde: eenvoudige diefstal. Zij heeft haar veroordeeld tot eene gevangenisstraf van vier jaren, twee geldboeten van f 12,50, alsmede in de kosten der procedure (Zierikzeesche Nieuwsbode, 20/05/1863 en zeer uitvoerig in de Middelburgsche Courant 16 juni 1863). Ze had o.a. een rok van een mede-dienstbode gestolen. In hoger beroep wordt ze veroordeeld tot één jaar gevangeniosstraf, in eenzame opsluiting te ondergaan, alsmede ééne geldboete van fl. 12,50 en in de kosten (Middelburgsche Courant 20 juni 1863).
