Jan Jacob Methorst, geboren op 24 juni 1890. Hij kwam uit een bakkersfamilie met vijf zonen en woonde op de Nieuwstraat.

Mijn vader Jan Jacob Methorst is bekend van de manufacturenzaak in het dorp. Maar ik weet niet meer wat hij daarvoor precies deed. Vader moest toen hij net getrouwd was voor de eerste Wereldoorlog in dienst. Maar moeder was toen in verwachting van Barend, dus dat kwam slecht uit ! Toen vader van zijn diensttijd terug kwam kon hij op een gegeven ogenblik een winkeltje kopen, een oud klein winkeltje aan de Dorpsstraat. Dat is het winkeltje wat op de ansichtkaart hieronder staat. Mijn vader begon daar een kruidenierswinkeltje, met daarbij ook wat stoffen en dat laatste hebben ze toen verder uitgebreid. Maar mijn moeder was de zakenvrouw hoor! Zij was een harde werker en zij had meestal wel in de gaten waar de winst was te halen. Ik was dertien of veertien en toen hebben ze dat oude winkeltje gesloopt en op die plek hebben ze toen een nieuw pand gebouwd. In de laatste Barneveldse krant heeft een afdruk van een ansichtkaart gestaan waar dat nieuwe huis op stond ! Helaas heeft dat pand er maar vijf jaar gestaan. We moesten in de eerste oorlogsdagen in mei 1940 weg en toen we terug kwamen lag dat mooie nieuwe pand helemaal in puin. Aan het Dorpsplein, het latere Plein 1940, werd toen weer een nieuw pand gebouwd, een wederopbouwpand. Daarnaast zat Van Ekris en aan de andere kant de bakker, Van Engelenhoven. Veel later is de winkel overgegaan aan Job Methorst, hij is een zoon van mijn broer Barend en die heeft het weer later verhuurd. Nu zit er het Kruidvat.
