Uit het geslacht van Fouron.
De abdij van Stavelot had het oog had laten vallen op Bassenge, maar ze had het geld er eigenlijk niet voor . De verwerving van dat tweede gedeelte waarvan in 1140 sprake is werd naderhand in 1141 bevestigd door Duits koning Koenraad III . Het was zogenaamd een schenking geweest, maar Stiennon vermoedt dat het in werkelijkheid een aankoop was en wel voor 60 mark . De zogenaamde schenker was Arnulfus van Nuth, die op kruistocht wilde, en een van zijn getuigen was Arnulfus neef (nepos) van Steppo van Maffe, de opvolger van onze Andreas (van Cuijk) als domproost in Luik. Stiennon geeft aan dat deze Steppo een broer is van Thibaut van Voeren. Bron; Dr Luise von Winterfeld , Oorkonde 1107-1116 uit het klooster St Jacob te Luik over een deel van de schenking van Maesniel. Waarin staat Broeder van ridder Thiebaldus van Bilstain, Columbier en Struona. Tevens staat in deze akte dat Arnulphis Filius fratris sui Arnulphi. Deze Arnulphis was de wettige erfgenaam van Maesniel.
