In 1915 wordt de bakkerij van Pieter Roskam in Harich gekocht. De slagerij van Gijsbert Haarsma aan het Oosteinde 32 te Balk wordt in 1925 aangekocht. Omdat zoon Auke, in 1955 geëmigreerd naar Amerika, het niet zag zitten de slagerij over te nemen wordt in 1955 de slagerij aan de Meerweg overgenomen door Piet de Winter. Sietze Sonsma verhuisd naar een woon-winkelpand aan de van Swinderenstraat, maar blijft, ondanks zijn leeftijd van 67 jaar, als knecht werken bij Piet de Winter om de bestellingen in het dorp op te nemen.
Sietze Sonsma wordt in 1960 met zijn vrouw opgehaald door hun zoon Augustinus om in Californië vakantie te vieren. (zie de Leeuwarder Courant van 11 november 1960.)
