Geraldine Elizabeth Mae (DeGroot) Larson went home to be with the Lord on January 28, 2011 in Lynden, WA.

Gerry was born May 7, 1925 in Everson, WA to William and Anna DeGroot. She met her husband of fifty-two years, Philip Albert Larson, while working at the cannery in Everson. They were married in October 1943 in Lynden.

Gerry attended several schools in Whatcom County and was especially proud when she completed her GED in 1992 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho at the age of 62.

While living in San Diego, CA, Gerry drove school bus for special needs children; often entertaining them with songs. Gerry was an accomplished artist who created oil paintings and drawings in pencil; loved to write poetry, often writing in calligraphy; and she loved singing praises to her Lord.

In her later years, she frequented the Lynden Senior Center where she enjoyed playing games and became proficient at playing pool. Wherever Gerry lived--from Annette Island, AK, Southern California, Schenectady, NY, Spokane, WA and Coeur d'Alene, ID-she always made each place "home" and befriended many people.

Gerry is survived by the family she loved; five children, Bill (Judy) Larson, Patricia Sampson, Robert (Susie) Larson, Daniel (Laverne) Larson and Paul Larson; her brother, Robert (Gayle) DeGroot; Jenny DeGroot , Joyce Larson, Lois Blythe, Len Honcoop and John Kroeze; twenty-four grandchildren; thirty-nine great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Philip; brothers, Gilbert, Casey and Johnny; sisters, Roberta and Dena; brothers-in-law, Larry and Norman; sisters-in-law Evelyn and Mabel and grandson, Matthew.

A memorial service to celebrate Gerry's life with stories, memories, singing her favorite songs and refreshments will be held Saturday, February 5, 1:00 pm at Word of Life Church, 1986 Main St., Lynden.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Lynden Community Center, 401 Grover St., Lynden, WA 98264.
