    NIEUWSMA, Joe Sr., age 73, of 208 9th Street, Lynden passed away in alocal hospital Saturday, January 12, (1963) following a short illness.He had been a resident of Lynden since 1946 and was a retired farmer. Hewas a member of the Bethel Christian Reformed Church of Lynden.Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth, two sons Herman Peter of Lynden andMelvin Ray of Campbell, Calif., two daughters, Mrs. Edward Statema, andMrs. Archie Statema both of Lynden. A step-son Hollis Meeboer and adaughter-in-law Mrs. Wilma Nieuwsma both of Lynden. Three sisters Mrs.Celia Huisingh, Mrs. Kate Timmer and Mrs. Gertie Bouma all of Lynden.Two brothers Frank and John both of Hull, North Dakota. Also 23grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Those desiring may donate tothe Cancer Fund. Funeral services will be held from the Bethel ChristianReformed Church Tuesday, January 15 at 3 p. m., Rev. Andre Zylstraofficiating. Burial will follow in the Monumenta Cemetery under thedirection of the Gillies Funeral Home.

Mrs. Nieuwsma was a member of theSecond Christian Reformed Church and a past member of the Golden HourCircle and the Lynden Christian School Mothers Club. A homemaker, shewas preceded in death by her two husbands, John Meeboer and JoeNieuwsma. Survivors include a son, Hollis Meeboer of Lynden; twostepsons Herman Peter Nieuwsma and Melvin Ray Nieuwsma, Lynden; twostepdaughters, Willma Terpsma and Cecila Statema, Lynden; two grandsons;a granddaugther; a stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorialservices will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Second Christian ReformedChurch, with the Rev. A. Cammenga officiating. Burial in MonumentaCemetery will precede the services at 1:30 p. m. Visitation will be from5 to 9 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to noon Wednesdayat Gillies Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Lynden ChristianSchools, 515 Drayton St., Lynden, WA 98264.
