    LORNA MAE WIELDRAAYER

Lorna Mae Wieldraayer, 84, longtime Oak Harbor resident, went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 due to injuries sustained in a single-car accident near Anacortes.

Lorna was born in Kandiyohi County, Minnesota on December 22, 1930 to Arlo and Johanna (Hoekstra) Bauman. She moved with her family to Lynden at the age of two. Lorna attended Lynden schools, graduating from Lynden High School in 1948. After high school she was employed at Whatcom Laundry and Dry Cleaners in customer service until her marriage.

Lorna married Marinus “Tients” Wieldraayer on July 27, 1951 in Lynden. The couple moved to Oak Harbor where they lived on the family farm and raised their six children. During this time, she was successful at many different jobs including tending flowers at “The Greenhouse”, as a talented seamstress for local dress shops and working on the farm.

Lorna was later employed as a rural carrier for the Oak Harbor Post Office for twenty-one years, retiring in 1996. After her retirement, she was able to travel, taking several enjoyable trips. Lorna fortunately had time, after her retirement, to volunteer in the classroom at a local elementary school. Lorna loved to help others, for many years she provided care for those in need. Lorna was generous in giving her time to others. She was an active member of the First Reformed Church, where she was involved in Women’s Ministries, Bible studies, choir and the annual Christmas Bazaar. Lorna was an accomplished seamstress and crafter; she always had a project or puzzle in the works. Each of her children and grandchildren are fortunate to have something she made especially for them.

Lorna is survived by her children Roger (Carole) Wieldraayer, Richard (Ling) Wieldraayer, Carol (John) Sorg, Robert (Anne) Wieldraayer and Ryan (Cheryl) Wieldraayer as well as her eight grandchildren and their spouses and nine great-grandchildren. Her two sisters, Ruth Honcoop and Marlene Winkleman, also survive her. Lorna was preceded in death by her husband Marinus “Tients” Wieldraayer in 1983 and a brother Arlo, “Bud”, Bauman. Her daughter, Gail Wieldraayer, passed away in the same auto accident.
