Teunis en Hilligjen trouwen op 13 december 1887. Het huwelijk wordt gezegend met 7 kinderen.
Aaltje (1888), Alberdina (1889), Pieter (1891), Aleida (1893), Jurrien (1895), Jelle (1897) en Johanna (1899).

Aan het eind van hun leven wonen blijkbaar haar ouders bij dit gezin in huis, want zowel Jurrien Tangenberg als Aaltje Dijkstra overlijden hier.
In 1899 overlijdt vader Jurrien:
"des voormiddags te negen uren ten huize van Teunis Witvoet, arbeider te Nieuw-Amsterdam"
En een jaar later overlijdt moeder Aaltje:
"des namiddags te drie uren, ten huize van Teunis Witvoet, arbeider te Nieuw-Amsterdam"

Relatie met de familie Hobers
Hilligjens vader Jurrien Tangenberg is de broer van Grietje Tangenberg, echtgenote van Willem Hobers. Het gezin van Jurriën Tangenberg reist samen met het gezin van Willem Hobers in 1860 naar Nieuw-Amsterdam om daar een nieuw bestaan op te bouwen.
