Beknopte inleiding bij de fragmentgenealogie van de familie: Schrier. De familienaam Schrier is afkomstig van Noord Beveland. De oudste vermeldingen van de naam vinden we in de doop-boeken en lidmatenregisters van Colijnsplaat, vanaf 1650. De stamvader van de familie, Christiaan Schreijer,is afkomstig van het Hertogdom Gulik, vermoedelijk als geboorteplaats: Seberhofen(?). Als soldaat in het leger van de Prins van Oranje huwde hijin Axel met Berendina Jans de Roo uit Ledegem in Vlaanderen. Christiaan Schreijer ging na beeindiging van de 80-jarige oorlog naar Sittard, toen nog Duits gebied. In 1650 ging hij het "nieuwe land" Noord Beveland verkennen; in 1651 vestigde het gezin - inmiddels met twee kinderen - zich in Colijnsplaat.
Lidmatenregister van de Hoogduits gereformeerde gemeente van Sittard: (belijdenis) 18 april 1648 "Christian Schreiers, von Uberhoven Bernhardtjen de Roe, von Cortrijck" Lidmatenregister Nederduits gereformeerde gemeente van Colijnsplaat en Noord-Beveland: 2 oktober 1650 "Christiaen Schreiers, van Vberhoven in het land van Guilick, comende met attestatie van Sittart, geschreven door Rudolphum Lantmesser, predikant aldaar, toegelaten tot het H. Avondmael". Christiaen kwam opnieuw (nu met zijn vrouw) met attestatie naar de Nederduits gereformeerde gemeente van Colijnsplaat en Noord-Beveland op 1 oktober 1651 (wonende bij de weduwe van Pieter den Hollander).
