Notes about Cornelia "Catharina" Helmes

Verwarring over de naam Cornelia of Catharina.
Bij de geboorte van Cornelia op 21 november 1829 zijn haar beide ouders 45 jaar oud. Cornelia/Catharina is de jongste in een gezin met drie kinderen. Haar zus Geertuide en broer Hendricus zijn bij haar geboorte 9 en 5 jaar oud.
Cornelia is ruim 20 jaar als haar moeder Anna van Arnhem in april 1850 overlijdt. In maart 1855 wordt haar zoon Jan Helmes geboren. Het is niet bekend wie zijn vader is. Zijn grootvader Jan Helmes doet de aangifte bij de Gemeente Ambt Doetinchem. Opmerkelijk is dat in de acte eerst echtgenote wordt geschreven maar daarna doorgehaald en dat niet de naam Cornelia wordt geschreven maar Catharina.
In november 1856 sterft de vader van Cornelia op 72 jarige leeftijd. Haar zoon Jan is dan 20 maanden oud. De jonge moeder woont met haar zoon in Wehl en is naaister van beroep.
Op 30 januari 1858 trouwt Cornelia op 28 jarige leeftijd met de militair Johannes Schaapveld die dan 53 jaar oud is. Op 13 juli 1861, drie jaar na haar huwelijk, erkent zij haar zoon Jan als wettig kind. In 1864 wordt zoon Hendrikus Johannes Schaapveld geboren. Cornelia is dan 35 jaar. In 1868 volgt een derde zoon genaamd Theodorus Schaapveld.
In maart 1876 sterft haar echtgenoot Johannes Schaapveld. De kinderen zijn dan respectievelijk 21, 12 en 8 jaar oud.
In februari 1881 trouwt zoon Jan met Maria Johanna Jansen. Zes jaar later, op 18 maart 1887, sterft Cornelia op 57 jarige leeftijd. Vijf maanden later wordt haar kleinzoon Hendrikus Johannes Helmes geboren.
