    Vanaf 8 juni 1648 was hij buitengewoon hoogleraar Klassieke en Oosterse talen (leeropdracht Hebreeuws en Grieks) aan de Universiteit van Leiden. Op 29 januari 1670 werd hij daar benoemd tot gewoon hoogleraar Klassieke en Oosterse talen (leeropdracht alleen Hebreeuws). Op 21 november 1678 werd hem ontslag aangezegd "wegens onvoldoend en onbehoorlijk gedrag", maar hij werd echter gehandhaafd in 1679.

    Althans vind ik, dat hij, in den jare 1678, over zijne nalatigheid en onbetamelijk gedrag omtrent de Studenten ernstig onderhouden, en met eene aanzienlijke vermindering zijner jaarwedde gestraft werd. Hij overleed tegen het einde des jaars 1679.
