Bert nam de boerderij over van zijn vader toen hij trouwde met Bertha (zijn buurmeisje). De boerderij lag in de Nieuwkampen in Vinkel. Bert ging ook met de melkkar rond om bij de boeren de melk op te halen. Bert is geridderd met de Zilveren Eremedaille verbonden aan de Orde van Oranje-Nassau. Hij was een graag gezien gast in Nijmegen bij zijn zwager en schoonzus Jos en Antje Bosch. Dan moest er gekaart worden en werd er een borrel gedronken. Beroemd is hij om zijn uitspraken / gezegdes zoals: snelscheiterke (snee peperkoek).
