Als Witte Pater 36 jaar in de Missie in Zambia. Priester gewijd in Carthago (Noord Afrika) in 1933. In die tijd bekostigde een aantal bewoners van de Roermondsestraat - Tegelseweg, de opleiding van een priester. Zo ook de familie Mestrum. Als dan die priester in Rome gewijd was en in de OLV-kerk de eerste H. Mis opdroeg, werd het 'huis van die priester' versierd (zie foto bij vader).
