Anna komt in het voorjaar van 1939 vanuit Nederland over naar Nederlandsh Indie, om zich te voegen bij haar man Jacobus Aarts.
Pas in oktober 1945 krijgt de familie van het Nederlandse Rode Kruis bericht van zijn overlijden (malaria) in het krijgsgevangenkamp Kuie in Thailand. In 1946 keert zijn Anna met hun twee zoontjes (Basje en Willy) aan boord van de Japara terug naar Nederland, waar ze intrekken bij de moeder van Jac. in Hilvarenbeek.
