Notes about Anna van HANNOVER

Een akkoord over de erfenis met zijn Pruisische verwanten in 1732 verschafte Prins Willem IV (1711-1751) de materiële basis voor zijn huwelijk in 1734 met de Engelse koningsdochter, Prinses Anna van Hannover (1709-1759). Prins Willem IV werd de eerste stadhouder in alle gewesten van de Republiek. Het stadhouderschap werd formeel erfelijk (ook in de vrouwelijke lijn); op 18 oktober 1748 werd de Oostenrijkse Successieoorlog beëindigd met de Tweede Vrede van Aken; dit wordt tevens gezien als het einde van ons land als grote mogendheid
Na de dood van haar man trad Anna als op gouvernante (1751-1759) voor haar minderjarige zoon Willem V, die formeel erfstadhouder was geworden. Deze taak werd na haar dood overgenomen door de hertog van Brunswijk-Wolfenbuttel, die daarvoor al belast was met de waarneming van de legerleiding.
