Arie Jan Lonsain was stationschef te Heerenveen. Herinneringen van Edske Foppes (1915): Van de familie Lonsain herinner ik me het best de vooroorlogse jaren, toen ze in Deventer woonden. Eerst aan de Brink, waar ze woonden tegenover de Waag, ook toen al een museum met aan de muur kookpotten, waarin in de Spaanse Tijd de vijand werd gekookt, hetgeen op mijn toen nog jeugdig gemoed een grote indruk maakte. Befaamd is mijn uitspraak over mijn witte hoedje (ja, hoeden is altijd mijn sterkste punt geweest), dat van de kapstok kwam(en er blijkbaar nogal verfomfaaid uitzag): "mijn hoedje is zo keuterig". Later woonden ze aan de Brinkgreverweg en tenslotte,m toen Arie Jan gepensionneerd was, aan de Veenestraat. Daarachter lag het terrein van de voetbalvereniging U.D. en die had een "zware" keeper, die in het Nederlands Elftal speelde. Wij logeerden op gezette tijden bij hen en ik herinner me dat deze Oom Lonsain, die kennelijk wat asthmatisch was, 's morgens op de nuchtere maag een tabletje "Emser Zout"
