Notes about Robert I

Dit "le Vieux" et "sans Terre". Mort à un âge très avancé en 1076. Il était le troisième fils du roi Robert le Pieux. Sa mère Constance voulut lui assurer la succession du trône ; n'y ayant pas réussi, elle le poussa à la révolte contre son père (1028). Néanmoins, Henri I, devenu roi de France, céda à son frère Robert le duché de Bourgogne qu'il administra sagement. Les chroniqueurs lui ont reproché de nombreux actes de violence envers des seigneurs et des monastères. Pour apaiser des remords, il fit un pèlerinage à Rome et fonda le prieuré de Semur. Il est le chef des ducs de Bourgogne de la première race.
