Neeltje is één van een tweeling, broertje Pieter overleed 6 weken na de geboorte.
Na het overlijden van haar moeder woonde Neeltje 2 jaar (?) bij haar opa en oma in de Houtrakpolder, tot haar oma's overlijden, zij wilde niet in het gezin van haar stiefmoeder wonen.
Later was zij 3 jaar in betrekking bij een keurige familie in de Kalverstraat in Amsterdam.
Hierna werkte zij 3 jaar bij Mevr.Kamphuis in Zaandam.
