Kind van het Oosterpark, waar hij als voetballer opgroeide bij volksclub Oosterparkers, dat destijds ook in het Oosterparkstadion professioneel speelde. Maar wel twee klassen lager, in de tweede divisie. Jampie, bijgenaamd Proppe, viel daar op met zijn razendsnelle rushes over rechts. Een logisch gevolg was dat hij door de 'grote broer' GVAV van Oosterparkers werd gekocht voor 3000 gulden, de vaste vergoeding voor amateurclubs toen. Hij speelde er drie seizoenen en was in die periode goed voor 20 doelpunten. Goed voor een mooie transfer naar Go Ahead.
