Uit immigratie-dossiers blijkt dat Klaas (voor de 1e keer) op 13-04-1908 met zijn ouders naar de Rue Nieuwstad nr. 10 te Antwerpen is verhuisd. Hij keerde in 1911 (exacte datum onbekend) alleen terug naar Nederland.

Op 22-09-1919 verhuisde Klaas (voor de 2e keer) opnieuw naar Antwerpen en woonde bij zijn ouders in de Gezondstraat nr. 17 (thans hernoemd tot Henri van Huerckstraat) doch keerde in januari 1920 terug naar Nederland om, naar eigen zeggen, zijn militaire dienstplicht (Nationale Militie) te vervullen. Klaas werkte in Antwerpen als boodschappenjongen en als sjouwer op markten.
