In de overlijdens-akte van Pieter (akte-datum 17-12-1910) staat vermeld dat hij 'weduwenaar' was van Katharina de Vries met wie hij op 10-12-1885 in Groningen in het huwelijk trad. Katharina is weliswaar 5 jaar eerder overleden dan Pieter maar Katharina was vóór 1892 geëmigreerd naar de USA alwaar zij op 10-03-1892 in Chicago (Cook County - Illinois - USA) opnieuw in het huwelijk is getreden met Nikolaas (Nicholas) Grimberg.
Mogelijk waren Pieter en Katharina uit de echt gescheiden of waren de aangevers van het overlijden van Pieter (Cornelis van Luijn (bedienaar) en Gerrit Buisman (bode) daarvan niet op de hoogte.
