Hilda speelde speelde na haar middelbare school in Zwolle en Amsterdam als doelvrouw in de nationale hockey selectie. Ze had een uitgebreide kennissenkring en was in de tweede wereldoorlog (net als haar broer Lex) zeer actief in het verzet. Daarbij heeft ze intensief contact met mensen uit de diverse groepen waaronder het schrijversverzet. Zij raakt bevriend met Majoor Bosshardt, waarmee zij tot haar dood regelmatig contact houdt. Na de oorlog werkt Hilda bij Amsterdamse kranten en uitgeverijen. Tijdens haar huwelijk met Arie Biemond wordt bij Hilda de ziekte multiple sclerose geconstateerd

De naam Wyers, Wiers, van de Wyer enz. komen in Zuid-Limburg al vroeg voor (vgl. Verdam, Middelnederlansch Handwoordenboek: Wier, wijer, wyher: vischvijver, poel). De leden van de familie schrijven zich in de regel Wyers, maar volgens de akten van de burgerlijke stand is de naam meestal Wijers.
