Notes about William R. Jones

Birth: Feb. 2, 1864
Death: Feb. 16, 1928

William R. Jones, a well-known and highly respected resident of this place, passed away at his home early Thursday, February 16th. He had not been in the best of health for some time, but his final illness only dated from February 12th. Mr. Jones was a son of the late Richard and Catherine Jones and was born in Turin, February 2. 1864. In 1888 he was united in marriage with Miss Delia Jones, who passed away in 1890. September 27, 1894, he was married to Miss Jennie Jones who died September 7. 1897. On December 8 1905, he married Miss Ida V. Sabin who survives. For many years Mr. Jones, conducted a lumber yard and saw mill on Welsh Hill, coming to this village in 1911, when he bought the Roberts feed mill, which he conducted very successfully until failing health compelled him to give up strenuous labor about three years ago. Mr. Jones is survived by his wife and one daughter, Miss Ruth Jones, of this place; a son, Giles Jones passed away October 6, 1913, aged 21 years.

There also survive two sisters, Mrs. William Markham and Mrs. P. E. Capron, of this place: one half-brother, Adriel Jones, of Turin. and one half-sister, Mrs. William Wendt, of Constableville, and by several nephews and nieces. Funeral services, were held from his late home Sunday, February 19th. at 1:30 p. m... Rev W. G. Geeson officiating. Mrs. W. S. Hart and Mrs David Alm sang appropriate selections. A profusion of flowers testified to the high esteem in which the deceased was held by his many friends.

The bearers were John Foppes, Louis Sauner, Robert Williams, Ernest Markham. Walter Wendt and Clarence Wendt, all of whom were nephews and cousins of Mr. Jones. The remains were placed in the vault and burial will be made in the* spring In Turin cemetery. Those from, out of town attending the funeral were Mrs. Laura Jones, Rome: Mr. and Mrs. John Foppes, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Sauner. Walesville; Robert Williams, Ava: Gilbert Jones, Boonville; Miss Helen Markham, Syracuse; Mrs. W. S. Hart, Utica; Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Markham, Lowville; Mr. and Mrs. William Wendt. Walter and Clarence Wendt, and Miss Emma Wendt. Constableville; Edward Sliter, Lyons Falls.
