Notes about Marretje Meun

Zelfstandig in het leven staan en blijven. Het was erg belangrijk voor Marretje Fokker-Meun. In haar laatste levensjaren uitte zich dat vooral in het willen blijven wonen in haar eigen huis. Op 24 mei 2012 overleed ze – zoals ze zo graag wilde – in haar eigen woning.

Marretje was de jongste dochter van Gerrit en Marretje Meun-Pasterkamp. Ze had drie oudere broers. Vanwege een geboorteafwijking was haar ene been korter dan het andere en liep ze een beetje mank.

Haar jeugd was een armoedige tijd. De vader van Marretje was visserman, maar dat leverde niet zo veel op. Als ze uit school kwam, hielp ze mee met het verkopen van vis langs de deuren en garnalen pellen. De opbrengsten hiervan gebruikte het gezin omde wekelijkse boodschappen te betalen. Ook oma Pietertje Weerstand, die vroeg weduwe werd, woonde tot aan haar sterven bij het gezin.

Na de lagere school ging Marretje als dienstmeisje werken bij gezinnen op Urk. Boers Albert en Pieter trouwden, maar Marretje en Sjoerd bleven lange tijd ongehuwd. In 1956 – toen Marretje 33 jaar oud was – leerde ze haar man Piet Fokker kennen. Hij werkte in de polder en kwam in de weekenden naar Urk. Ze trouwden in Den Bommel en gingen samen in Nagele wonen. Daar kregen ze hun enig kind, zoon Jan.

Kort na het huwelijk overleed de moeder van Marretje. Vader Gerrit kon niet alleen blijven. Hij kwam veel in de polder, maar voelde zich er niet thuis. Het gezin Fokker besloot naar Urk te verhuizen en trok in bij vader Gerrit. Marretje verzorgde hem tot op hoge leeftijd.

Marretje had over veel dingen een uitgesproken mening en was hier zeer rechtlijnig in. Naar anderen toe was ze erg zorgzaam. Nadat haar man Piet werd afgekeurd, deden ze alles samen. Eerst was dit moeilijk voor de zelfstandige Marretje, maar ze vonden samen een weg. Marretje genoot van de uitstapjes met haar man. Vakanties naar het buitenland en het maandelijkse familiebezoek op Flakkee. Ook mocht ze graag handwerken, zoals haken, borduren en breien. Ze deed het met veel plezier.

Dat zoon Jan met zijn gezin niet in de buurt woonde, vond ze jammer. Vooral toen hun twee kleinzoons werden geboren. Ze genoot van haar kleinkinderen – had alles voor ze over. De logeerpartijtjes over en weer waren favoriet. Ook was er wekelijks hettelefoontje, waarin ze op de hoogte bleef van hun belevenissen.

In 2003 overleed Piet en stond Marretje er alleen voor. Regelmatig haalde haar zoon Jan haar op voor een weekje Hellevoetsluis. Het laatste jaar van haar leven werd ze echter steeds minder mobiel. Na een korte ziekenhuisopname in 2010 kreeg Marretjemeer thuiszorg toegewezen. Zeven weken voor haar sterven kwam ze op bed te liggen.

Voor Marretje was geloven altijd een persoonlijke zaak geweest, ze sprak er niet veel over. Toch was na haar sterven één ding duidelijk voor haar nabestaanden: Marretje stierf met een rotsvast vertrouwen op de Heere God en op Jezus Christus als haarVerlosser.
