Notes about Bastiaan Johannes "Bas" van Pelt

Hij doorliep de lagere school te Deventer en daarna de handelsschool te 's-Gravenhage; kreeg vervolgens een opleiding als typograaf te 's-Gravenhage, Rotterdam en Amsterdam. In 1924 kwam hij in Rotterdam terug, alwaar hij practisch werkzaam was in de meubelfabriek van zijn schoonvader. Na zeven jaar als binnenhuisarchitect hebben gewerkt nam hij een bestaand bedrijf in 's-Gravenhage over namelijk de firma "My Home" woninginrichting welke in 1908 was opgericht door Cornelis van der Sluys en Coolwijk. Daarna vestigde hij een filiaal in Maastricht, de kunstzaal "De gulden roos" genaamd, een filiaal te Amsterdam, "My Home" genaamd. In 1936 richtte hij met ir. Jan Piets b.i. een architectenbureau op, en bouwde enkele landhuisjes. Hij beweegt zich uitsluitend op modern terrein wat betreft ontwerpen van interieurs, zo heeft hij onder andere ingericht de kunstzaal "de gulden roos" te Maastricht, de R.K. openbare leeszaal te Sittard, de R.K. leeszaal Breda, het sanatorium "Koningsheide" te Schaarsbergen van Dr. Van Erp Taalman-Kip, de interieurs voor de nieuwewoningbouw te Curacao n.w.i. het directiekantoor, ziekenhuis enz. Er zijn artikelen van hem verschenen. Hij was betuurslid van de Haagse Kunstkring en lid van de vereniging voor Ambachts- en Nijverhuidskunst, Limburgse Kunstenaars en van Meridiaan 5. Studiereizen brachten hem naar West-Indië, Amerika, Venezuela. Als liefhebber houdt hij zich bezig met het verbouwen van rogge, aardappelen en groenten en met sport, tennissen, schaatsrijden. Hij was vroeger een goed waterpolospeler.
