Notes about Egbertus Marinus

Egbert Marinus, gedoopt in Nijmegen (waar zijn ouders toevallig waren) op 12 september 1708 en overleden in Groningen in het Anthonie Gasthuis op 7 oktober 1787.

Als jonge man was hij "twee en halfjaar in de wijnnegotie tot Amsterdam onderweesen" Hij was pachter van de wijnaccijns in het Karspel Eelde. Hij trouwt voor de eerste keer in Zuidlaren op 6 mei 1736 met Maria Voskuil, geboren te De Groeve (Zuidlaren) qi 1710, overleden in 1710, overleden voor 1770. Zij was een dochter van de schoolmeester Hendrikus Voskuil. Hij trouwt voor de tweede keer in Groningen op 13 juli 1773 met Grietje Eppes, weduwe van Jan Menssens, afkomstig uit Slochteren, uit dit huwelijk werden geen kinderen geboren.

Van ongeveer 1734 tot 1769 verbleven de Marinussen niet in de stad Groningen. Egbert Marinus trouwde in Zuidlaren en was beurtlings woonachtig te Zuidlaren, Rolde en Anlo.

Eerder vertelde ik al over de activiteiten van Egbert als pachter van de wijnaccijns. Het is niet verwonderlijk dat we Egbert nog al eens tegen komen in gerechtelijke stukken van Drenthe, waar toen de rechtelijke uitspraken werden gedaan door de Etsstoel. OP 19 meib1773 maakte Egbert Marinus zijn eerste testament, waarin hij de finacien regelde voor de rest van zijn leven en na zijn dood ten behoeve van de toen in leven zijnde kinderen Hinderika, Janna, Jan Willem, Harmen en Rudolphus. De laatste heeft daar kennelijk weinig plezier van gehad, maar daarover later. Redelijk snel daarna trouwt hij  voor de tweede keer met Grietje Eppes. Hij maakte op 25 maart 1775 een nieuw testament, waarin hij ook zorgt voor zijn tweede vrouw. Veel van zijn bezit was afkomstig uit de nalatenschap van zijn nichten Johanna en Anna Marinus en van zijn oom de predikant Johan Willem Marinus. Uit het jaarboek over 1773 van het St. Anthonis Gasthuis blijkt dat Egbert Marinus daar als weduwnaar werd opgenomen in 1769, met z'n 61 jr. niet oud, althans naar onze begrippen.
