Henrietta Jansonius was the oldest child of John and Margaret NymeyerJansonius. In 1904 she married Harry Ulfers, the oldest of elevenchildren of Harm and Hattie Janssen Ulfers. They had gone together for along time until finally her father, John Jansonius, told Harry to make uphis mind. Perhaps John was wondering how long his unmarried daughterswere going to continue to live at home. She was twenty-nine years of ageat the time of their marriage.
Henrietta and Harry first farmed about 1 1/2 miles east of Ackley. Afew years later Harry bought land in North Dakota, and in 1910 and 1911Harry would spend November and December (about two months) in NorthDakota tending to his farm. This interest in North Dakota land mighthave stemmed from Henrietta's brother, Fred Jansonius, who was a lawyerin Bowdon, North Dakota.
In the spring of 1914 Henrietta and Harry Ulfers moved to Arena,North Dakota. Much of their farm equipment went to the new location byrailroad car. According to notations in the local newspaper, Henriettacame home yearly to see her family in the Ackley area.
Even after Henrietta was in a nursing home in Wellsburg, Iowa Harrycontinued farming in North Dakota. Henrietta died in August of 1955 .Harry died in a Bismarck, North Dakota hospital in November of 1955.
