Sophia van Rooyen is van die eerste geslag van die van Rooyens wat op Kaapse bodem gebore is. Sy was die oudste dogter van
Cornelisz van Rooyen wat van Gorichem, Netherland, na Suid-Afrika gekom het in 1713.
