Notes about Carel van Rappard

Mr Carel ridder van Rappard (Assen, 19 oktober 1874 - Bückeburg, 19 augustus 1939) was advocaat en diplomaat.
In 1899 werd Van Rappard doctor in de rechten aan de Universiteit van Utrecht. Hij werd advocaat in Den Haag en was van 1916-1917 chef afdeling Bescherming Departement van Buitenlandse Zaken. In 1917 werd hij minister-resident en leider van de Britse afdeling van het Nederlands Gezelschap.
Van 1920-1923 was hij gezantschapsraad in Berlijn. Van 1925-1929 was hij buitengewoon gezant en gevolmachtigd minister te Rio de Janeiro, daarna van 1929-1034 in Boekarest en van 1934-1937 in Bern. Zijn laatste post was weer Berlijn. Hij overleed in1939.
Van 1934 tot zijn overlijden was hij bovendien permanent vertegenwoordiger bij de Volkenbond.
Van 16 maart 1914 - 4 april 1918 was Van Rappard de eerste voorzitter van het Nederlands Golf Comité, dat later zou uitgroeien tot de Nederlandse Golf Federatie.
