67919682280   Svjatoslav I van Kiëv, ovl. 973 Kiëv, grootvorst v. Kiëv, vernietigt het rijk der Chazaren (962-69), verovert op verzoek van de Byzantijnse keizer Nicephorus II Phocas het rijk der Bulgaren (967/68), slaat in 969 de door de Bulgaren te hulp geroepen Petsjenegen terug en vestigt zich als heerser in Bulgarije, maar moet van deze veroveringen afzien nadat keizer Johannes Tzimisces wordt verslagen (971). Hij sneuvelt op de terugweg naar Kiëv in een veldslag tegen de Petsjenegen. De door hem in het leven geroepen ruiterij wordt gezien als voorloper van de kozakken. Geh. met Predislawa, mogelijk een dochter van de Hongaarse vorst Zerint. Svjatoslav I had een buitenechtelijke relatie met:
