Notes about Bartholomeeus Jan Ruelens

Bartholomeeus was gegoed te Alphen, Chaam, Gilze en Oosterhout, en Heiligegeestmeester van Alphen in 1529. Hij woonde te Terover onder Alphen, en is in of kort voor 1560 overleden. Zijn vrouw was mogelijk een dochter van Cornelis Jan Jacobs van den Nuweleynde, en is hier als zodanig ook opgevoerd in de stamboom. Bartholomeeus, die wij gerust als grootgrondbezitter mogen aanmerken, komt in vele acten voor. Op 24 januari 1503 trad hij te Alphen reeds op voor zijn moeder. Hieruit volgt tevens dat hij toen minstens 25 jaar oud moet zijn geweest. Op 21 februari van hetzelfde jaar kocht hij te Gilze van Gielis Robbrecht Wiltens een beemd in het Wouwenbroek. Op 27 mei 1509 liet hij te Alphen al zijn goederen registreren. In het oudste cijnsboek van Alphen van 1560 worden zijn cijnsplichtige goederen opgesomd. Blijkens het cijnsboek van Alphen van 1635 waren toen deze goederen in het bezit van respectievelijk: Adriaen Meeus Laureyssen, Cornelis Meeus Ruelens, Claes Jan Claessen ter Over, en Pauwels Huybrecht Pauwels van Ghilse, allen achterkleinkinderen van Bartholomeeus en van Adriaen Gijsbrechtsz van Weelde (alias Havermans).
