OP 22 juli 1760 woedde er een hevige brand in Standdaarbuiten, waardoor binnen een uur "het grootste gedeelte der huijsen en de schuuren mitsgaders de winkelwaren, huijscieraden, kleederen, beesten en bouwgereetschappen der ingezetenen aldaar door de vlammen was verteert." In totaal gingen er negentien "deftige burgerhuizen" in vlammen op, waarin 28 huishoudens woonden. De kom van het dorp zal toen ongeveer dertig huizen omvat hebben, zodat meer dan de helft door de brand werd verwoest. Op vrijdag 1 augustus hielden de magistraat en kerkenraad van het dorp gezamenlijk een vergadering om te overleggen wat er gedaan kon worden om de getroffen ingezetenen te helpen. De oplossing: collecteren. En niet alleen in het dorp zelf, maar ver daarbuiten ook. In het voorjaar van 1761 begon de collecte, die vooral gehouden werd in de omringende streek, maar ook in Zeeland en de rest van Brabant, zoals Den Bosch.

In de boekhoudkundige afwikkeling van de grote dorpsbrand vinden we ook Antonetta Eemans terug, genoemd als 'de Weduwe Tomas Hagens'. Zij woonde aan de oostzijde van het dorp, op het kleinste perceeltje aldaar (de andere percelen zijn minstens twee, drie keer zo groot). Blijkbaar heeft ze geluk gehad: aan haar werd geen uitkering gegeven voor schade, dus waarschijnlijk is haar huis gespaard gebleven.
