De informatie over Hans Douwes is enigszins onzeker. Sommige Faber-onderzoekers plaatsen Douwe bij Reyna Jelles als moeder. Van Hans Douwes zijn geen verdere kinderen bekend, zodat vernoeming geen aanwijzingen levert. Als ouders van Hans worden genoemd Hans Hanzes en Hansck Hilles Bualda. Dat lijkt echter onmogelijk, omdat zij al oud en nagenoeg overleden waren ten tijde van het vermoedelijke geboortejaar van Hans Douwes.

Het boek 'Het nageslacht van Douwe H. Faber en Janke Lieuwes' van de hand van het echtpaar Faber- Van Cadsand (uitgave mei 1990) laat de Bolswardse familie Faber met dit echtpaar beginnen. Er is verder een onbetrouwbare stamreeks tot de Friese koning Radboud II via de families Galama en Hettema.
