Beroep: predikant. Zijn zoon Hermes werd een bekend predikant in de vroege 17e eeuw, zelfs opgenomen in het Nieuw Nederlands Biografisch Woordenboek, een verzameling van korte biografiën van bekende Nederlanders uit de 16e tot 19e eeuw. Ook zijn broer Jacobus was een beroemd man in zijn tijd, onder meer als schrijver. Hij was factor van de rederijkerskamer De Orange Lelie te Leiden; medewerker aan de Nederduytschen Helicon (1610, met o.a. een programmatisch spel over het verval en recht gebruik van de `Konst van reden-rijcke'. Auteur van een groot aantal liederen en refreinen waarmee hij literaire prijzen won. Eigen kenspreuk `Ick wensche om 't beste'.
