Laurens van Dun, gedoopt te Goirle op 31 december, 1742, trouwde aldaar op 9 februari 1777 met Ida van Besouw,
gedoopt te Goirle op 2 juni 1752 als dochter van Jan Baptist van Besouw en Adriana Maria Wiemers. Juist als zijn vader had
Laurens verschillende baantjes, die hij niet altijd tot volle tevredenheid van de Goirlenaren uitoefende. In 1783 was hij brandmeester,
hij was handelaar in kaatsballen, zetter, kerkmeester, 'debitant a tabac' en bij zijn overlijden (Goirle, 27 mei 1821)
winkelier.
Het schoolmeester schap werd hem in 1795 in de schoot geworpen.
Op 7 juni 1795 ontving de municipaliteit van Goirle een rekwest, getekend door ruim vijftig Goirlenaren, met het dringende
verzoek om de hervormde koster-schoolmeester Quirijn Rovers, „een onredelijke en voor de kinderen nadeligen orangjeklant",
aan de kant te zetten. Het dorpsbestuur vond het haar plicht er voor te zorgen, „dat het aankomende geslagt niet wierdt bloot
gesteld om de gevaarlijke denkbeelden van Rovers in te zuijgen" en ontsloeg de meester op staande voet om Lauwerens van Dun,
een bekwame burger, als onderwijzer aan te stellen. Rovers werd bovendien gesommeerd voor half april 1796 het schoolhuis te verlaten.
