Willy trad toe tot de orde van de redemptoristen op 8 september 1941 en werd op 9 maart 1947 te Wittem tot priester gewijd. Na zijn studies in Rome en Leuven werd hij verbonden als lector in de filosofie aan de opleiding van deze orde in Wittem, vervolgens in 1968 aan de Hogeschool voor Theologie en Pastoraat te Heerlen. In 1969 werd hij de eerste gekozen provinciaal van de Provincie Amsterdam, welke functie hij tot 1981 vervulde.Door de voorzitter van het curatorium werd hij benoemd tot gedelegeerd curator van het curatorium van de universiteit voor Theologie en Pastoraat te Heerlen, welke functie hij tot 1992 vervulde. Hij aanvaardde tevens een functie aan de kerkelijke rechtbank te 's-Hertogenbosch. In 1990 keerde hij terug naar Wittem
