Cornelis Snels, textielfabrikant, geboren te Goirle op 6 januari 1844, overleed aldaar op 5 juli 1929. Hij trouwde te Goirle op 22 oktober 1883 met Johanna Klijs, geboren te Oosterhout op 12 juni 1851, dochter van Pieter Klijs en Geertruda Driessen. Kees Snels was een zoon van Peter Snels en Johanna Voskens. Als weduwe begon zijn moeder met de fabricage van- en handel in wortel- en behangsellinnen. Deze producten werden vervaardigd door thuiswevers. In 1866 werd door haar de firma Wed. P. Snels & Zonen opgericht. Daarnaast dreef de familie Snels een kruidenierswinkel en een bakkerij. Kees Snels had in Goirle de bijaam 'd'n bisschop'.
