Notes about Johan (Johan VII) "the Middle One" van NASSAU SIEGEN

Stamvader van de tak Nassau-Siegen. Kreeg 30 maart 1607 bij de deling met zijn broeders Siegen en
Freudenberg. Hij was in 1576 student te Heidelberg, diende 1578 in het leger van Johan Casimir
van de Palts en hield zich vanaf 1584 bezig met het versterken van de verdedigingswerken van
Nassau en de Dillenburg. Hij kwam vaak naar de Republiek en woonde de belegeringen bij o.a. van
Steenwijk (1592), Coevorden (1592) en Groenlo (1597) en was steeds doende het geschut te
verbeteren, 1601-1602 was hij Zweeds veldmaarschalk in de oorlog tegen Polen, 1610 aanvoerder van
de Paltsische Uniegroepen, in 1616 stichtte hij de krijgsschool in Siegen.
