Hij was mede oprichter en bestuurslid (secretaris) van een vakvereniging (de Nederlandsche Vereeniging van Christelijke Kantoor- en Handelsbedienden) . Later was hij jarenlang voorzitter van de afdeling Rotterdam en lid van het Hoofdbestuur van deze vereniging. In 1918 was hij mede-oprichter van de Vereniging van Nederlandse Accountants, van welke vereniging hij de eerste jaren ook voorzitter was. Hij was 17 jaar diaken en 16 jaar lid van de Commissie van Beheer van de Gereformeerde Kerk in Rotterdam. Later werd hij ook nog ouderling.
