Lebertus van Dam was born in 1889 in the country village Uithuizermeeden in the northern part of the Dutch northeastern province Groningen, the last of ten children and nine sons of the 48 years aged day-laborer Freerk van Dam and Trientje Doornbos, probably named for one of his uncles.
On 26 July 1910 the 21 y aged farmer Lubbertus van Dam, born in Uithuizen, son of Frank van Dam, arrived on the SS Noordam at New York, Ellis Island. His last residence place in the Netherlands was Uithuizen and his destination is Butte, Silver Bow County, Montana, where his brother John van Dam [Jan, born on 11 Nov 1870 in Uithuizen] is living. Butte is very wellknown for its coppermining. From hereon not any trace of Lebertus is found yet (July 2013). It's for sure that he didn't marry and/or die in the Netherlands.
His brother John Van Dam, a miner, died on 7 June 1919 in Salt Lake City, Utah and is buried at his last residence place Butte. Unfortunately there is no name of the cemetery mentioned. He was married to Ella Van Dam, who is mentioned (as deceased) in the Montana Butte Standard newspaper of 5 May 1936 and 15 May 1937. She resided in 1930 in Butte too.
Did Lebertus also stay in Butte?? And under which given name did he live in the USA?
