Notes about Theodorus "Theo" Dijst

Theodorus wordt op 02-05-1928 geschikt geacht voor de Militie. Hij is lang 1.80 m. Op 01-10-1929 wordt hij ingedeeld ij het 18e Regiment Infanterie, 2e ploeg. Op 15-03-1930 en op 23-09-1933 gaat hij met groot verlof. In het Militieregister in de kolom "Opmerkingen" staat ook vermeld: "kan gemist worden". Waar dat op slaat is niet bekend.
Theodorus is voor het huwelijk van zijn ouders geboren (geboren 25-7-1909, huwelijk ouders 2-2-1910). Zijn geboorteakte vermeldt alleen de naam van zijn moeder. Door een aantekening op de akte blijkt dat op 7-8-1909 het kind wordt erkend door Gerardus Dijst en Alida Maria Hoogeweg. Theo had ook een ventvergunning voor aardappelen-groenten-fruit en haalde zijn rijvaardigheidsbewijs.
Bij de mobilisatie voor de Tweede Wereldoorlog werd hij kok in militaire dienst en gelegerd in Hoogland. Hij was soldaat bij het onderdeel M.C.-III-18 R.I. Daar is hij enkele dagen na het uitbreken van de oorlog op een mijn gelopen en overleden. Het overlijden wordt aangegeven door Petrus van Hilten (stiefvader) op 5 juni 1940. Theodorus wordt begraven op de militaire begraafplaats op de Grebbeberg, maar op verzoek van zijn moeder, inmiddels getrouwd met Petrus van Hilten, wordt het lichaam door een militaire escorte overgebracht naar de Oosterbegraafplaats, Middenweg te Amsterdam.
Op de grafsteen staat vermeld: "Op 12 mei 1940 sneuvelde onze lieve zoon en broer Theodorus Dijst, oud 30 jaar."
