Notes about Johannes Dijst

Voor de Nationale Militie, lichting 1884, nummer 887 wordt hij wegens broederdienst uitgeloot. Hij is groot 1.57 meter.
Eerder al was zijn schoonzuster J.M.E. Dijst - Scholts (echtgenote van Hendricus Lambertus (1866) in 1904 (tijdelijk) naar Bussum. In 1933, na het overlijden van zijn vrouw, vertrekt ook zijn broer Hendricus Lambertus (1866) naar Bussum. Na het overlijden van de broer van Johannes (Andries 1869) vertrekt ook zijn weduwe, C.M. Dijst - v.d.Velden in 1930 naar Bussum. Bussum blijft kennelijk trekken, want ook broer Dirk (1878) vertrekt met zijn vrouw in 1933 naar Naarden en later naar Bussum. Ook na het ontbinden van het huwelijk van Dirk in Amsterdam, vertrekken hij en zijn ex naar Naarden/Bussum.
Op 6 november 1922 was een tante, M.A. Dijst - van den Andel, vrouw van Theodorus (1848) vertrokken naar Hilversum.

Johannes Dijst begint een eigen meubelhandel onder de naam “Magazijn van Meubelen” in de Hartenstraat 18 nabij zijn woonadres Hartenstraat 24. De fabriek is gevestigd in de Palmstraat 48. In de krant Het Nieuws van den dag van 27-06-1892 plaatst hij een advertentie voor zijn meubels.
In 1895 zijn het roerige tijden. Het bedrijfsleven wordt geteisterd door stakingen. Ook de meubelindustrie in Amsterdam krijgt te maken met een staken van de meubelgezellen. Ook het meubelbedrijf van J. Dijst heeft hier mee te maken. Op 28-03-1895 plaatsen de meubelmakers in Amsterdam een bericht in Het Nieuws van de dag, waarin zij hun klanten op de hoogte stellen van de plotselinge staking en in hun ogen onredelijke hoge eisen van de meubelgezellen.
In de krant het Algemeen Handelsblad van 09-04-1895 wordt door de meubelmakers in Amsterdam uitleg gegeven van de stand van zaken met betrekking tot de staking en de onredelijke eisen van de meubelgezellen. In het bericht zeggen zij te beschouwen, dat de stakende gezellen hun ontslag hebben genomen. In dezelfde krant wordt een bericht geplaatst aan de stakende meubelgezellen, dat hun patronen hen beschouwen als ontslag te hebben genomen en roepen hen op hun gereedschap van de werkplaats op te halen.
Hoe de staking verder is verlopen is niet bekend. J. Dijst blijft in elk geval zijn meubelzaak runnen. Op 05-09-1898 plaats hij weer in de krant Het Nieuws van den dag een advertentie voor zijn zaak in de Hartenstraat.
Rond de eeuwwisseling heeft Johannes Dijst mogelijk belangen in twee meubelfabrieken. In de krant Het nieuws van den dag van 31-01-1899 wordt gepubliceerd de oprichting van de “Nederlandsche Meubelfabriek” als voortzetting van de meubelzaak Johannes Dijst. De directeuren zijn J.D. Wildeboer Jr. en J. Dijst.
Op 29-11-1900 verschijnt er een advertentie in de krant Het Nieuws van den dag van de meubelfabriek “De Hoop” van H. Dijst en J. Dijst. Zij zijn broers. Hendricus Lambertus (1866-1939) woont in 1902 in de Frederik Hendrikstraat.
Na de oprichting van de Nederlandsche Meubelfabriek (voorheen J. Dijst) wordt de zaak verplaatst naar de Keizersgracht 510-512, nabij de Leidsestraat. In een advertentie van 15-05-1899 en 05-06-1899 in de krant Het Nieuws van den dag wordt de meubelzaak gepresenteerd.
Op 04-04-1899 vertrekt Johannes met zijn gezin naar Haarlem. Kennelijk lukt het niet in Amsterdam de meubelfabriek te laten floreren. In Haarlem wordt gevestigd N.V. Nederlandsche Meubelfabriek, J.D. Wildeboer & J. Dijst, Zijlweg te Haarlem. In de archiefdienst voor Kennemerland is reclamedrukwerk hiervan aanwezig.
Het gaat niet goed met de meubelfabriek en ook niet met J. Dijst. Op 10-04-1900 verschijnt in de krant Het Nieuws van den dag een berichtje, dat J. Dijst te Haarlem geschorst is als directeur van de N.V. Nederlandsche Meubelfabriek. Het bericht wordt verstrekt door de Raad van Commissarissen.
Op 02-04-1900 is J.Dijst nog jurylid bij een prijsvraag voor de meubilering van een burgerwoning. Of zijn schorsing toen al bekend was, is niet bekend.
OP 17-01-1901 wordt het faillissement van J. Dijst, voorheen directeur van de N.V. Nederlandsche Meubelfabriek opgeheven.
Of dit faillissement betrekking heeft op de N.V. Nederlandsche Meubelfabriek of een andere meubelzaak van J. Dijst is niet bekend.
Het blijft onrustig in de meubelindustrie. Op 18-01-1909 verschijnt in de krant Het Nieuws van den dag een bericht van het personeel van de meubelmakers, waarin zij vertellen dat zij onder protest hun arbeidsovereenkomst tekenen en betichten de werkgevers van machtsmisbruik in de door de malaise geteisterde tijd. Ook personeel van de meubelfabriek J. Dijst, Bloemgracht 90 zijn bij de vergadering aanwezig geweest. Kennelijk is Johannes Dijst terug gekeerd in de zaak van zijn vader. De meubelzaak J. Dijst en zijn betrokkenheid bij de N.V. Nederlandsche Meubelfabriek hebben niet tot resultaat geleid. In 1908 vestigt hij zich met zijn gezin op de Bloemgracht 142

Nog lange tijd blijft in Amsterdam een meubelzaak Dijst bestaan. De laatst bekende meubelzaak is Practica Dijst.
