De eerste Schonissen komen we tegen rond 1625 in Tiburg.
Walter uit 1857 groeit op bij de leerlooierijen in en rond Loon op Zand, die rond 1900 opgekocht worden
door Duitse joden. Deze Walter wordt twee keer veroordeeld, een keer voor onttrekking van goederen uit een failliete boedel en een keer voor belediging.
Hij verhuist dan naar de Noordpoortstraat in Middelburg en begint daar een schoenenzaak.
zoon Kees Schonis groeit op in Loon op Zand en verhuist als kind mee naar Middelburg.
In ca 1915 is hij bakkersleerling in Domburg.
In ca 1920 begint hij eerst in loondienst bij bakker op de geitenkamp in Arnhem, daarna
in ca 1925 begint hij zelf een bakkerij met winkel aan de Nrd Parallelweg 57 in Arnhem
Marie Louise de Reu groeit op in Groede [Zws Vl.] en ziet in de 1e wereldoorlog de dode paarden in de Schelde drijven. Haar moeder kon lezen en schrijven, haar vader niet, maar hij deed alsof. als zondags het kerkrantje kwam zat hij plaatjes te kijken en deed alsof hij las, zijn vrouw wist wel beter..
Ze woont en werkt vanf ca 1917 in tabakswinkel Dietz op de markt in Middelburg.
Ze raakt zwanger van Kees en bevalt van 1e kind in 1920 in Leiden, waar ze een ´dienstje´ heeft, met hulp van haar zus die daar al werk had.
Een jaar later trouwen Kees en Marie en verhuizen naar Arnhem.
