    Oorlogsverleden: (opgemaakt uit stukken in het archief CABR)

    Volgens politie verordening p.v.nr 198 zou hij zich in 1942 schuldig hebben gemaakt aan verduistering en diefstal.

    Arie was actief lid van de Nationale Jeugd Storm van sept 1940 tot sept 1942

    In sept 1944 vlucht (gevacueerd) het hele gezin (moeder en kinderen) op dolle dinsdag naar Ahlen kreis Burgdorf bij Hannover.

    Hier wordt het gezin eerst ondergebracht in de Volkschule Burgdorf. Hier is ook enige tijd het adres van de familie.

    Vader Willem zit in die septemberdagen waarschijnlijk in Arnhem, is daar SS chauffeur. Volgens de krant van 23 juli 1947. De situatie in het gezin waaruit Arie stamt was uiterst slecht te noemen. Er was weinig inkomen en moeder Janna gaf zich af met andere mannen deels om aan inkomen te komen.. Het werd zelfs zo erg dat de NSB haar weigerde als lid vanwege haar onzedelijk gedrag. Ze wordt in de stukken duidelijk bestempeld als Moffenhoer.

    Aangekomen in Ahlen kreeg Arie de keuze, of werken in een fabriek of zich melden bij de SS afdeling luchtafweer. Zijn Vader had als volbloed NSB er gekozen voor de SS. Ook al zijn ooms waren lid van de NSB.

    Arie kwam na verschillende afwijzingen en na versoepeling vn de regels bij de Nederlandse afdeling van de Waffen SS terecht en kwam in opleiding te Graz na eerst nog in Eger en Rostock te zijn geweest . Uit zijn eigen mond weet ik dat hij Dresden heeft zien branden. Dit in de nacht van 13 op 14 februari 1945. Waarschijnlijk kwam hij daar uit Rostock vandaan en was onderweg naar Graz in Graz heeft hij ook de eed op de Führer afgelegd.

    Hij zou hier samen met Wim Kramer uit Hekendorp, Henk van Mourik uit Capelle a/d Ijssel Richard Versteeg uit de Haag en Cornelis Ansouq de opleiding hebben gevolgd.
